London Festival Fashion Guide: Calling Festival

by Caroline JonesJune 25, 2014

Whilst we love a good summer festival as much as the next girl, we’re not such big fans of camping. Luckily for us there are enough London music festivals to keep us busy all summer, without finding ourselves staggering across a field in the dead of night in search of a portaloo, or waking up in bed with a creepy-crawly, or having a baby wipe bath for the third morning in a row … shudder.

This weekend it’s the newly-renamed Calling Festival, with Aerosmith and Stevie Wonder (Stevie actual Wonder!) topping the bill – and we’ve got all the festival fashion suggestions you need.

Classic rock: you can’t go wrong with fringing, a kimono and a badass hat. Fact.

HM Kimono

We love this minimal, airy chiffon kimono, £9.99, from H&M. Not only is it a bargain, but it will become a staple in your wardrobe year-round. Trust us.

Aldo sneakers

Aldo’s denim sneakers, £65, are begging for a festival outing – and you’ll be grateful for that concealed wedge when you’re stood behind a tall person, too.

Miss Selfridge hat

This trilby, £18, from Miss Selfridge gets double points for keeping the sun off and adding a dose of rock chic to your outfit with its stud trim.

Motel top

The bold vintage scarf print on Motel’s cropped top, £28, nods to the golden era of music festivals with a subtle hippy vibe that we love.

River Island shorts

Keep your fingers crossed for no mud and break out these suede high-waisted shorts, £65, from River Island for another textural dimension to your look.

Pieces bag

Fringing is a festival fashion fave, but keep it to accessories to avoid a fancy dress look – try this leather bag, £65, by Pieces.

Embrace the 90s in daisies and Dr. Martens.

A few great denim pieces will see you through the festival season in style – add this jacket, £27, from Asos to your collection immediately.

DM boots

There’s a secret about these boots, £75, from Office. They’re DMs that are also wellies! Wellies that are also DMs! We’re brilliant; you’re welcome.

AX Paris dress

If you’re doing more than one festival this summer, this AX Paris dress, £25, will be your best friend. Well, this and dry shampoo.

Topshop sunglasses

We love these retro round-framed mirror sunglasses, £16, from Topshop – they’re the perfect 90s finishing touch.

“What, this super-cute indie girl ensemble? Oh, I just threw it on …”

Zara tee

Perfect your best ‘I’m with the band’ look in this slouchy t-shirt, £15.99, from Zara – we can’t promise it’ll get you backstage but it’s worth a try …

Kurt Geiger sandals

Get yourself a gel pedi to survive the weekend and slip your feet into Kurt Geiger’s barely-there sandals, £65, for festival feet that are cool, not hot.

River Island scarf

Wear River Island’s abstract printed scarf, £13, as a headband, around your wrist or tied to your bag for a flash of colour. Just don’t hang it out of your back pocket.

Stella Dot bracelet

Keep jewellery to a minimum: an accent piece like this Stella & Dot bracelet, £45, is ideal for sparkle junkies to add a little rock chick flair.

Gap jeans

What would Kate Moss do? Every girl’s best friend, these black skinny jeans, £49.95, from Gap will see you through so much more than summer festivals.
