London bloggers have style in spades but when it comes to fashion Instagrams, they all follow a few golden rules. The first? Location, location, location. If you love sharing your carefully-curated outfits with your friends and followers, that bedroom mirror selfie just isn’t going to cut it. Take a few tips from some of our favourite London fashion bloggers and try one of these picture-perfect locations for your next #ootd post.
1. The grand entrance
London’s gorgeous architecture has a lot to offer: case in point, these front doors and steps. Do these bloggers actually live there? Probably not. Do we care? Not one bit.
2. The graffiti wall
Because what says ‘edgy’ better than street art? A pared-back outfit is instantly pepped up with a bright mural behind it, and those eye-catching colours will really stand out in an Instagram feed full of samey selfies.
3. The botanical backdrop
London is full of beautiful flowers and greenery in the spring and summer, so make the most of the blooms while we have them. Coy downward gaze optional.
4. The cobbled street
London’s olde worlde mews make great backgrounds for outfits of all kinds – just see how these three bloggers have used the cobbles as a foil for three very different looks.
5. The London icon
A red bus, a black cab, a phone box or a man in uniform: play tourist and show off your city’s best bits. It might seem cheesy, but Instgrammers love a bit of London kitsch – and we do too.
6. The ubiquitous railings
Ornate black railings are a regular feature of London-based bloggers’ Instagrams, and for a couple of good reasons: a) the vertical lines draw the eye downward (slimming!); and b) they’re pretty much everywhere you look.
7. The coffee shop
As the popularity of the #coffeenclothes hashtag shows, fashion and caffeine go together like London and rain. An upper-body shot across the table is the perfect way to show off outfit details and accessories, too.
9. The brick wall
Here’s one pretty much anyone can emulate: all you need is a brick wall and a killer outfit. Try yellow brick to make blue denim pop, or a white-painted wall as a foil for a technicolour look.
10. The green space
You’re never more than a short tube ride away from a park in London – more than a third of the city is open green space, so take your outfit and your camera out to play. Bonus points for blossom.
