For a man who only graduated from the London College of Fashion in July this year, Ethan Koh has the kind of pedigree others can only dream of.
At the tender age of 24, the Singapore-born designer has just unveiled his first collection of exquisitely crafted minaudières to be stocked exclusively at London’s most luxurious department store, Harrods.
Drawing on four generations of artisanal craftsmanship, the Ethan K Wildlife Odyssey collection comprises four clutches in Niloticus crocodile skins sourced from Koh’s father’s tannery, with the signature brilliant colouring and meticulous hand finishing overseen by the designer’s brother, Albert – it’s a family business in every sense.
Koh began designing bespoke pieces for discerning clients two years ago whilst still studying. At this morning’s launch in the sumptuous setting of Ladurée at Harrods, his unassuming passion for creating beautiful, timeless pieces and respect for his family’s heritage made for a charming and inspirational presentation.
The Wildlife Odyssey collection, with its gem-studded hedgehog, snake and frog clasps and Georgian-inspired hand mirrors inside every clutch, will go on sale at Harrods on November 23rd and looks certain to be on this Christmas’s most-wanted list.
A further collection of magnificent day bags will arrive at Harrods in Feburary.
